Jun. 17th, 2024 12:25 amname: Mars Matthias
pronouns: He/she/they
age: 17
canon: The Honeys by Ryan La Sala
played by: Dakota Blue Richards
First Impression: Brown hair, androgynous look, lean somewhat athletic frame. Mars spends time at every point along the gender spectrum and can appear fully femme, fully masc, or anywhere in the middle depending on mood or day. Nine times out of ten they will have painted nails, usually in a dark royal blue. Mars is a twin, the self-described "logic" twin, where their sister was always the emotional artist of the two of them. Yes, Mars is the elusive Math Gay. They lean to the sarcastic and flamboyant, choosing to wear their queerness like armor rather than to blend in for safety, and this has gotten them into bad situations before.
Content Warnings: Nearly unavoidable: Dead twin and the emotional fallout, bullying, transphobia and related violence, child abuse/neglect and exploitation of minors, mindreading/thought sharing, insects.
Other CWs that are less likely to but may come up include insect horror and gore, semi-parasitism, mind control, cannibalism,
Canon summary WITH SPOILERS: Mars and Caroline were your usual somewhat codependent twins, that is until Caroline got in with the innest crowd at the exclusive summer camp the two attended as children. Mars opted not to attend said summer camp any more after the year where she got nearly burned alive because transphobia. Once drifting apart for several years, Caroline comes home and attempts to murder Mars in the middle of the night. She dies in the process, and leaves Mars very injured. This is chalked up to brain cancer postmortem. Mars believes none of this and opts to investigate her murder himself. In the process of investigation, Mars uncovers not only that the girls of Cabin H- otherwise known as the honeys- are part of a much larger secret society called the hive but are in fact the center of a godlike hive mind that has been living and thriving through teenage girls at this summer camp for decades. Worse still, it is not the mysterious honeys, but the adults who have been manipulating them that ultimately caused Caroline's untimely death. The greatest power that the honeys, and the bees that they keep, have is their connection to the lace. The semi string theory semi magic web that connects all living things across time and space. Through this lace, the honeys can read potential futures, and this is what the adults have been manipulating.
To make a long story short, Mars takes over the hive that the honeys are the center of as the new queen, the seat of the omniscient hivemind, and destroys their enemies in the process. Real queen shit. Oh, and they have a very bittersweet moment in the liminal space of memories within the lace, and get closure with their dead twin.
Powers: Through the use of dark honey, or certain meditation techniques, Mars like the rest of the hive, can tap into the lace in order to see potential futures. They have an especial talent for it, which helped to bolster their potential as a new Queen. They also carry the throne within them now as queen, meaning that the hub of the hivemind shared between the Honeys exists within them. They can shut this off for short times, for privacy and silence, and will do so once in awhile, but for the most part they embrace the sense of belonging and family that comes from being connected to the girls. If taken from earlier in the canon or AU'd, this may not come up at all.
Note: I'mma be real honest a lot of this lore is left very open to interpretation and not expanded upon at all (Ryan, go queen, give us nothing!) so in order to really play Mars to the fullest I have to fill in a lot of gaps and make a lot of shit up. This may not always match up to the interpretations of other readers if there is anyone else out there playing from this book or who simply has read it. (If you are or you have please come into my DMs I promise I don't bite pspspspsps)
Shipping/CR wishes: Absolutely always looking to play out friendships, or auing characters (girls and enbies only, no boys) into being part of the Hive. Mars is self-described "gay" which to them means into boys. Other enbies potentially also on the table, we can feel out the vibes. I love cross canon, and the fun surprises it gives us for cr! I love making up AUs and am happy to smash Mars into whatever other canon. My fucking kingdom for a Caroline, Bri, or Sierra.
